Tien Graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, and in 2003 with a Master of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy, from the University of South Australia. Being a physiotherapist for over 20 years Tien has worked in various settings including private clinics, rehabilitation centres, hospitals (Footscray Hospital and Calvary – St Johns Hospital), sports fields (SAASL and Junior SANFL) and clinical education. Tien gets a lot of satisfaction by empowering clients through engagement and education, to optimise the client’s physical development and recovery.
“Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.” This quote has always appealed to Tien and he has embodied this idea through his physiotherapy practice, he also extends this philosophy to his interest as a clinical educator and mentor. Tien enjoyed supporting and mentoring physiotherapy students from UniSA, the University of Melbourne and new graduates through the steep learning curve at the start of their physiotherapy journey.
Tien’s special interests include:
- Headache Management (especially involving temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD))
- Lower Limb Dysfunction
- Managing Complex and Chronic Conditions
Whether it is in the room, on the sports field or at a workplace, Tien enjoys all aspects of managing his clients’ conditions. He believes early management, the right expertise and a mutual commitment towards rehabilitation, are essential to achieving preinjury and/or the best physical outcome. Tien brings an eclectic training history and a holistic approach to his practice which has assisted many patients in their recovery journey.
Outside of work, Tien loves being outdoors and being physical. He takes great pleasure in breathing the air of the four seasons and exploring nature. The COVID-19 pandemic also rekindled his childhood passion of camping and more recently 4WD. Tien, his wife and their two young boys take every opportunity to pack their swags, go for a drive and enjoy Australia’s endless amazing views. Tien also enjoys chasing a little white ball around 18 holes, and a quick game of tennis or badminton in his free time.
To supplement the physicality of life, Tien loves to cook and try new culinary experiences. Tien believes “there is nothing better to finish the week with than cooking for family and friends, sharing a bottle and letting the stress of the week sweep away by the breath of the wine.”
